HONORABLE NOTES
I can’t believe it has been a full four weeks already since we decided to go on this journey together. In that time we’ve had over 75 different fiction writers on Substack featured on our Top in Fiction lists! That’s pretty amazing but I know there are more of you out there! So keep their names (and yours) coming!
Some of you may be missing the fact that “medallions” are available for recommended posts listed below (excluding Honorable Mentions/Notes). Wondering where to put them: Your Post, About Page, Welcome Email, Start Here Post, etc. Where are they found? Click the link below the PDF download!
When this started I had an idea to use Substack’s Chat feature for the weekly meet-ups (aka Friday Open Call emails). Here’s why:
Only subscribers can participate.
Chat won’t be viewable on the website, leaving it clean and only listing the weekly issues.
But there are some drawbacks as well:
I can’t schedule these. To send a Chat call for recommendations means I’ll have to remember to do it every Friday.
They are not viewable on the website. And while this is great on one hand, on the the other, I like being able to link back to the open call posts to see those stories that didn’t make it into the issue. Giving even more stories exposure.
Anyway, apologies for making this opening part so long but I wanted to explain why I’ve opted not to use the Chat feature (for now) and will continue to leave these Friday meet-ups as emails.
One thing I’ve learned thus far is that fiction, regardless of what algorithms might dictate, is thriving and important and worth highlighting. I only wish I could do more! Enjoy this week’s selections!
