What You Missed, Live! on TiF…
Top in Fiction is all about the best ways in which we can be the tide. Raise all ships. Help writers of fiction find readers of fiction. Both online and especially offline. Let’s talk about the many ways in which Top in Fiction is moving forward with its very lofty, but possible, mission statement:
Updated Notifications for Writers of Fiction
This is the second week where the TiF Team has been working together and tirelessly to select the best of the rest of all that stories that are submitted. There has been a small dip in the number of submissions so, to try and correct this from happening, we now have a TiF Notifications email. This email will ONLY go to those who OPT-IN to receive these notifications. They will be sent twice per week as follows:
At 6am EST on Fridays when the submission window is OPEN for Fiction that you’ve read/written.
At 5pm the following day, Saturdays, 1 hour before the submission window is CLOSED for Fiction.
I recommend all writers of fiction to OPT-IN to receive this email. If you are subscribed just to get the weekly Monday and monthly Recap emails, please do not feel obligated to opt-in. Also, if you are satisfied with the Substack Chat notifications that have gone out twice so far, those will continue as well, providing two options for receiving notifications. Likewise, if you are a subscriber who doesn’t wish to receive those Substack Chat notifications you can OPT-OUT from receiving them.
Step 1:
Click your image [top right] → Manage subscription [See image below]
Step 2:
Select “TiF Notifications” so the switch turns ORANGE to OPT-IN and receive emails. Select “New chat threads” to the switch turns GREY to OPT-OUT from receiving notifications. See image below:

Two Brand New Ways TiF is Promoting Stories and Storytellers
TiF Mentions - Starting today we will be sharing the featured stories along with 1 line from the work and a link to that story. We ask that when you see this TiF Mention you take the image, restack it, and share it across all social media either linking to the OP or to TiF so that others can find and read the story. This feature will start to be open for featured stories first but will roll out to Honorable Mentions as well.
Calling all Self-Publishers in 2025 - We want to feature you in our Monthly Recaps. And offer you the option of coming on for a Live interview as well. But if you don’t feel comfortable being on camera, you can just answer a select set of questions about your future publication and we will include your interview. The requirements to be featured in an upcoming Monthly Recap is two-fold. 1. You must be sharing the work you intend to publish on your publication. 2. There must be a Pre-Order link available in the year 2025. This tells us that you are serious about publishing your work. So, if you have a book coming out later this year and a pre-order link, let me know in the comments and we’ll reach out to you ASAP to set something up. We will start looking at 2026 pre-order books starting October 1st.

We are still in need of certain genres to help find the best of the best every week. If you love reading Mystery, Climate Fiction, Speculative Fiction, or Historical Fiction, please consider filling out the application. What exactly would you need to do? Every Saturday, find your favorite spot to read and read the work submitted only under the genre you like to read. For the ones I mentioned there is an average of 1 - 5 stories that we may get. Some weeks we don’t have any for that genre. After you’ve read them, then you will select 1 to be featured. And that’s it.
We also have Literary Fiction that could use a few more pairs of eyes. This is the genre that gets the most submissions week-over-week. Usually about 12 up to 20+! Work together with others in this genre to pick the best of the week.
Aside from getting to help the community of readers find the best stories to read, you also can have your work featured every week (if you are a writer) and assist me in implementing key changes to making TiF reach more readers, voting power when TiF Magazine goes into production, and so much more! We even have a lively Discord channel where you will receive the TiF Team role for realtime discussions.
