Special Message from the EIC:
I’m putting this first for all of you who may never read my personal note at the bottom of these emails. If you joined me during the Live this morning (or watch the VOD now/later) you will have heard the news that Top in Fiction is scaling back a few things. I am one person who, for the most part, has been running this show all on my own and, unfortunately, I can no longer continue the way things are. But, I refuse to let TiF die! Not when I know it’s doing good, or at least I hope it’s doing good, for the fiction community. So, my only solution is to change the formula a bit. These changes will be rolling out slowly throughout this Spring and into the Summer. I will provide exact details as to the changes that are coming next Monday, April 14th, as I am still going over my list of changes as I’m writing this. Meaning, some of what I shared may not be changing or might not stay the same. Whatever happens over the next couple weeks/months, TiF is here for all your fiction needs and I want to just thank you for sticking by whatever decision I ultimately make.
Now, without further ado, the featured stories this week!

What You Missed, Live! on TiF…
On our Monthly Recap Live, March Edition, we had on Shane Bzdok to talk about our favorite interior book designs and we both may have cheated a little on the parameters we set for ourselves! If you ever wanted a down and dirty, no-holds barred, discussion about the state of book design and self-published authors, you should give our candid conversation a listen.
I mentioned the TiF 100 list is coming next week Monday! But I want to take a little bit of time to give you some key facts you’ll want to know about this list:
Like our featured stories and everything else we do around here, everyone on this list shared fiction on their publication.
Size doesn’t matter. That goes for both paid subscribers or free subscribers.
Everyone on the list has been featured in the previous Weekly issues from last year and this year. We’ve featured 400+ different fiction authors.
Each person featured is fairly active AND consistent in their delivery of fiction.
We also took into account things like participation in the community through Notes and leaving/responding to comments.
This list will only change twice a year. The next release time for the TiF 100 is tentatively scheduled for August 18th.
One last thing I want to mention about this list. It in no way captures the number of fiction writers we know of out there! As stated before, there are hundreds and we barely are scratching the surface. But the purpose of this list is simple: To show that list can exist where fiction is the true representation and size shouldn’t be the only factor that’s used to highlight all the amazing people in the ever growing fiction community!
We hope you’ll share this list, whether you’re on it or not, and especially if you recognize familiar faces or discover some new ones!
Important Dates/Events to Remember:
TiF Presents…Eye See You | Have you thought of a story idea to write for this event? Remember, the story must be written between 3/31 - 6/1 and submitted via a FORM that will be available on 6/1. Then all participants should schedule their story to be shared on Friday, June 13th!
The TiF 100 [Monday, April 14] | This is the Top in Fiction official list of 100 fiction writers. This list in no way covers all of the fiction writers that can be found but it’s our list and we are damn proud of it.
Earth Day Event [Monday, April 21st] | Special guests
and will be joining me to talk about their event. The order of things will be slightly different for this event. There will be NO news/updates segment. Instead, I will begin by reading off the featured stories and then invite the guests to join me.TiF Sociable [Wednesday, April 30] | There are two time slots for this event. We are still accepting any fiction writers who want to come on and read their work to join us! DM me or leave me a comment down below. I will reach out on April 17 to get more information and outline the guidelines as well.
