What You Missed, Live! on TiF…

On March 8th,

was gracious enough to join me to discuss his contribution to The Substack Zone that happened November of last year. We had a candid conversation about The Twilight Zone and much more.

And in keeping in line with this theme of asking John 6 questions, I asked the same 6 to everyone who participated in The Substack Zone and specifically those who are in the book that came from that event, The Midnight Vault. This resulted in a Companion to the book, which

created an epub version to go along with my PDF version. Download either or both and if you have the book, you can take a closer look into each story from the perspective of the writer of the stories.

The table of contents is in the same order as they are listed in the book, with clickable links to get to each one’s answers. I’ve also included an area where I ask you similar questions so you can answer them as well (but only if you want).

I mentioned on April 7th that TiF would be changing and I’ve decided to begin implementing those changes sooner rather than later. Below is a work-in-progress list of what’s changing and what’s remaining the same as of today. As each change happens you’ll be the first to know so there are no surprises. I’ve gone ahead and included tentative dates for when these will taken effect moving forward:

TiF Changes

  • TiF Weekly Live name change to TiF Live. [Now]

  • Number of featured stories scaled back to 15 stories featured + 5 honorable mentions each week. [Now]

  • Shutting down TiF Substack Chat notifications. [Now]

  • TiF Notifications will go out to everyone. [Friday, April 18th] If you DO NOT want to get these emails you will need to OPT-OUT. Information on how to OPT-IN or OPT-OUT can be found on our TiF FAQs page.

  • TiF Submission form remains on Fridays at 7am EST with NEW close time of Sundays at 7am EST. [Friday, April 18th]

  • TiF Live will no longer be weekly. [Monday, April 28th]

  • Medallions weekly end. [Monday, April 28th]

  • Medallions will only be given to all featured stories in the Monthly Recaps. [April 28]

What stays the same…

  • TiF Weekly emails will continue. But JUST an email.

  • TiF Notifications will now be sent to everyone for reminders about submission forms and other events.

  • TiF Disruptions will continue to happen throughout the year.

  • TiF Voices [AKA TiF Sociable] will continue… somewhat regularly. More information on how TiF Voices will be accessible to everyone even those who rather not be on video but can record themselves reading their own work, will be coming soon.

I don’t usually do any self-promotion of myself, but I wanted to mention why today’s Weekly Live was later than usual: I did an interview with

for her 8Q Live! I had already answered her 8 questions last year but with Substack and my creative goal posts having moved considerably since then, it was nice to get to talk it out with her and see exactly how much my perspective on my own fiction and the state of Substack has changed since then.

You can watch the 8Q Live I did this morning, here.

Due to unforeseen complications the TiF 100 list is unavailable. I hope to have it fixed and up by the end of the month.

Important Dates/Events to Remember:

TiF Presents…Eye See You [Sunday, June 1st submission window opens] | Have you thought of a story idea to write for this event? Remember, the story must be written between 3/31 - 6/1 and submitted via a FORM that will be sent on 6/1. Then all participants should schedule their story to be shared on Friday, June 13th!

Earth Day Event [Monday, April 21st] | Special guests

and will join me to talk about their event. The order of things will be slightly different for this event. There will be NO news/updates segment. Instead, I will begin by reading off the featured stories and then invite the guests to join me.

TiF Voices [Wednesday, April 30] | There are two time slots for this event. We are still accepting any fiction writers who want to come on and read their work to join us! DM me or leave me a comment down below. I will reach out on April 17 to get more information and share the guidelines as well.
